Early Life and CareerThe Austrian artist Jacob Seisenegger first gained recognition in 1530 when he created a portrait of Emperor Charles V for Archduke Ferdinand I during the Reichstag in Augsburg.
The painting, now considered lost, demonstrated Seisenegger's talent and brought him to the attention of the imperial court.
Imperial Court and Nobility
In 1531, Seisenegger was appointed court painter to Ferdinand I.
His prominence grew as Ferdinand became Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire in 1558, and Seisenegger was subsequently granted nobility. After traveling and working in various parts of Europe, the artist returned to Vienna in 1549.
